Request information from public authorities under the RTI Act, 2005
Go to rtionline.gov.in (works for central government ministries and some other bodies).
Click "Submit Request" and fill the form (max ~3,000 characters; attach a PDF for longer text).
Pay the ₹10 fee online, or attach a BPL certificate for a fee exemption.
Write your request on plain paper addressed to the Public Information Officer (PIO) of the relevant department.
Attach the ₹10 fee via Indian Postal Order, Demand Draft or cash receipt.
Send by post or submit in person and keep the receipt.
The CPIO must respond within 30 days; within 48 hours if the matter concerns life or liberty.
Track your request status by logging in on rtionline.gov.in.
Replies are typically sent by post or, for online applications, may be available via the portal.
Not applicable — RTI applications cannot be edited after submission; file a fresh request if needed.
