FeeFees were revised w.e.f. 1 July 2026 (first revision in 14 years). Adult (18+), 36-page: ₹2,500 normal / ₹5,000 Tatkaal. 60-page: ₹3,500 normal / ₹6,000 Tatkaal. Lost/damaged replacement (36-page): ₹5,000 normal / ₹7,500 Tatkaal. Minors (below 18): ₹1,750 normal / ₹4,250 Tatkaal. Police Clearance Certificate: ₹750.

3 How to Apply Online

Register on the Passport Seva portal (passportindia.gov.in) and fill the application form.

Pay the fee online and book an appointment at your nearest Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or Post Office PSK.

Visit the PSK with original documents for verification, photo and biometric capture.

New passports are chip-enabled e-Passports with embedded biometric security.

4 How to Apply Offline

Offline/physical form submission is limited; the process is designed to be started online, with the physical visit only for the PSK appointment.

5 Processing Time

Normal: 4–6 weeks after police verification (where applicable). Tatkaal: 1–3 working days after document verification.

6 How to Check Application Status

Track status on passportindia.gov.in using your File Number.

7 How to Download

Physical passports are delivered by India Post (Speed Post) to your registered address; there is no separate digital download.

8 Correction

Apply for a "Reissue" of passport for any change in personal particulars (name, address, etc.).

9 Renewal / Validity

Passports are valid for 10 years (5 years for minors); apply for reissue starting about 9 months before expiry.

What is the difference between passport renewal and reissue?

They're used interchangeably by most applicants, but the Passport Seva Portal officially categorises almost all renewals under "Reissue of Passport."
